Mangaluru, Apr 30: One of the three persons attacked by a group of miscreants at Thokkottu under Ullal police limits on the night of April 26 passed away on Saturday April 30.
Safwan (20), a resident of Pilar, who was attacked with sharp weapons by the group near the overbridge close to Olapete in Thokkottu, died in a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Safwan, Nizam (19) and Saleem (24) were returning from catering work at a wedding on April 26 night, when a group of miscreants waylaid them near the overbridge and attacked them with swords. While Safwan, who was seated between Nizam and Saleem on the bike, sustained serious injuries on the stomach, the other two escaped with minor injuries.
Despite being seriously injured, Safwan had managed to run about a kilometre and call his friends for help. He and Saleem were admitted to hospital, while Nizam, who had gone hiding from the attackers, appeared the next morning.
The attack was one of the spate of violent incidents to have hit Ullal of late, since the murder of Raju Kotian a few days ago. Prohibitory orders were issued in Ullal and Mangaluru city limits, and so far, the police have arrested five persons in this connection. The police commissioner has said that these were random attacks and that the attackers did not know the victims.
