Mangaluru: Youth attacked by group in Ullal breathes his last

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, Apr 30: One of the three persons attacked by a group of miscreants at Thokkottu under Ullal police limits on the night of April 26 passed away on Saturday April 30.

Safwan (20), a resident of Pilar, who was attacked with sharp weapons by the group near the overbridge close to Olapete in Thokkottu, died in a private hospital in Mangaluru.

Safwan, Nizam (19) and Saleem (24) were returning from catering work at a wedding on April 26 night, when a group of miscreants waylaid them near the overbridge and attacked them with swords. While Safwan, who was seated between Nizam and Saleem on the bike, sustained serious injuries on the stomach, the other two escaped with minor injuries.

Despite being seriously injured, Safwan had managed to run about a kilometre and call his friends for help. He and Saleem were admitted to hospital, while Nizam, who had gone hiding from the attackers, appeared the next morning.

The attack was one of the spate of violent incidents to have hit Ullal of late, since the murder of Raju Kotian a few days ago. Prohibitory orders were issued in Ullal and Mangaluru city limits, and so far, the police have arrested five persons in this connection. The police commissioner has said that these were random attacks and that the attackers did not know the victims.

We need more Abakka Ranis in Ullal. The main reason behind the problems in Ullal is the lower eduucation among the women, Marginalized women who can't take any decisions on their own, Unemployed youth, Political interference, Political parties misusing the poor less educated youth for their political gains and so on. Unfortunately the religious fundamentalism is deep rooted in every child and families and even if they don't have anything to eat, they are willing to do anything in the name of religion.
The religious fundamentalists from all groups are encashing on it.
We need to look forward for a better Ullal where women will have more role in family decision making, better education and proper guidance for all youngsters.
We also need more bold police officers like Ms Bharathi to set right Ullal for a better tomorrow

Innocent killing has to be condemned.. be it Raju Kotian last week or safwan this week. they are breadwinners for their family and killers must be severely punished.

but then those who shed tears only on some occasions and keep silent on other similar occasions - for them pen is not mightier than sword, in fact for them, pen is more dirtier than sword. Hope such people realize and try to treat al innocent deaths in equal terms
