Panaji, Oct 19: Once again, it's time for the voters to exercise their right in Goa. This is the second election being seen in the state this year. The first one was June Two goa state legislative assembly poll.

Although this election will not have much impact on the polity of the state, it will surely indicate which way the voters are inclined in south goa. Beng well aware of this, the political parties have candidly chosen their candidates.

Interestingly, both the candidates are Catholics although it is well known fact that except Salcette, the entire constituency is Hindu-dominated one. The political parties know it well that if they manage to woo a chunk of Catholic votes, their candidate will be through in this election.

The BJP and Congress are all out with their full focus on this election. It is interesting to note the way the Congress party began its campaign. It announced that legalizing buffalo fights will be prime on their agenda for this election.

Sardinha is a wise politician. He knows the pulse of Salcette people. He knows it very well that although animal welfare organizations may cry foul over his move, he will get massive support from salcette people.

The BJP was quick enough to react. Initially, it said that it too supported the fights but later tried to mock Sardinha by saying that it is not possible to legalize the fights.

Whatever said and done, the political parties are hell-bent on wooing the five-lac-plus voters in this constituency that comprises of 21 assembly constituencies.

Interestingly, the BJP partymen came up with another issue, which has been so dear to their heart for long. As part of its opposition to special economic zones in the state, the BJP began a series of awareness campaigns in the state. It was thought that these campaigns will reach a climax before by-poll but they still continue and the party has made it a big election plank.

So, now let's sit with our fingers crossed. Let's see which way the south Goa voters decide. Hope they exercise their vote with full wisdom.
