Mangaluru: Siporex Strikers win NFPL cricket tournament

Mangaluru, May 2: Siporex Strikers won the ‘New Friends Premiere League 2016’(NFPL) historic underarm cricket tournament which started on April 19 and concluded on April 24, at Krishnapura, Surathkal.

In total, 12 teams participated in the tournament in two pools. 

In the final, the undefeated Team Elegant was facing inconsistent Siporex Strikers. The thrilling final was decided on the last ball of the match as Siporex Strikers was able to pull the match in their favour.

Winners Siporex Strikers was awarded the cash prize of Rs five lacs whereas Team Elegant was runners up of NFPL 2016 and won the cash prize of Rs three lacs. 

The man of the series was awarded to skipper of Team Elegant Riyaz.

The high profile guests such as MLA Mohiuddin Bawa, Mumthaz Ali, health minister UT Khader, minister Ramanath Rai and Mother India Latheef attended the closing ceremony of historic underarm cricket tournament.

This was the first tournament where a cash prize of Rs five lacs was awarded to the winners and Rs three lacs was given to the runners-up.

Both teams fought brilliantly in the final. But Siporex was able to win the match.

Riyaz scored 167 runs with bat, took nine wickets and helped in five amazing stumps and was superb in his captaincy.
