Mangalore, Oct 19: The Mangalore University level inter-collegiate women volleyball tournament - 2007 has been played at Government First Grade College at Kavoor. The college which came into existence just 5 years ago has organized such a mega event for the first time. Moreover, the efforts put in by the college lecturers, students and the locals to create new grounds for the tourney has driven attention of the sports enthusiasts.
Suratkal MLA J Krishna Palemar inaugurated this tourney on Friday, October 19. A total of 29 teams are participating in this tournament.
Dr Shridhar Maniani, principal of the college, said that the ground for the volleyball tourney was formed just 15 days ago. The support of the locals and hard work of the students as well as the teaching staff has converted the dream of organizing a tourney into reality, he added.
Dr John Pinto, physical director of the college while speaking to ‘www.daijiworld.com’ said that earlier only 7 to 8 teams were participating in the university-level women's volleyball tourney. But today the numbers of the teams have been increased. The response for the women volleyball at university has also increased over the year, he informed.
The tourney will conclude on Saturday, October 20 evening.
