Mangalore, Oct 20: Shanthi Kiran counselling centre, will be blessed and inaugurated by Bishop Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore at the Pastoral institute, Shanthi Kiran, Bajjodi here on Saturday October 20, informed Dr Lawrence Mendonca, director, Shanthi Kiran Counselling Centre at the press conference here on Friday October 19.
Counselling helps a person to understand his or her own development from early childhood. It will also help to understand the influences of the people in his/ her immediate environment which might be responsible for the emotional blocks that hinder the normal emotional growth, he remarked.
According to him, it helps the people to understand the level of communications, relationship-building and the stress levels. Once a person is able to understand himself/herself and others, he/she will be able to deal with the arising emotions and stress.
Shanthi Kiran strongly believes that persons who are suffering from mental illness are not mad, he informed. The objectives of the centre will follow these words to the fullest, he added.
The centre will offer services in every aspect of mental health through qualified counsellors and through referrals to other mental health care providers, he said.
The services offered at the centre are individual counselling, family and couple counselling, group counselling, on-site school counselling, psychological evaluation, career counselling and training on counselling, he detailed.
