Sharjah: Accident Victim’s School Staff Shocked

Khaleej Times

SHARJAH, Oct 21: The death of seven-year old Ayesha Diya in an accident on the Al Dhaid-Sharjah highway on Thursday night, has left faculty and staff of her school shell-shocked.

The head of The School of Knowledge recalled Ayesha as a ‘beautiful’ and a ‘well-mannered child’ and termed her death and that  of her three-year-old sister Dina Ruqiya, as ‘pathetic’ ‘and a terrible tragedy’.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Mrs Ansari, principal of the Sharjah-based The School of Knowledge, said, “Ayesha, who was a Grade I student in our school, was a beautiful and a well-mannered child. Everyday, before she stepped out of the bus, she would say ‘bye uncle’ to the conductor. It is so rare to see children of such a tender age this well-behaved.”

The two children were killed when another car rammed into their stationary car. The children’s father, Haroon Rashid, who was returning from Dhaid with his pregnant wife and two daughters, decided to nap after parking his car on the hard shoulder.

“As soon as we heard about the accident on Friday morning, a few teachers, the headmistress and I went to meet the family in the hospital. We just held the hand of the father, hoping to offer solace,” Mrs Ansari added. The school resumed only a month ago after the summer holidays. A condolence meeting for the children would be held today in the school premises.

A relative of the family, Fasil, told Khaleej Times that Haroon’s wife had delivered a baby boy, who was healthy. “She is in the ICU and is still recuperating from the injuries she sustained. However, she does not know about the death of her two daughters. Doctors have said it is better not to let her know anything now,” he said.
