One killed as wall collapses in Mumbai


Mumbai, May 7 (IANS): A labourer was killed and another trapped under the debris of a building wall which collapsed in Kanjurmarg's Karvenagar in northeast Mumbai on Saturday, an official said.

The accident took place around 9.30 am at the MMRDA Complex building No.3 when two workers were engaged in decentring work (removing wooden covers from dried cement walls).

One of the victims, Indrajeet V. Chavan (20) was extricated and taken to Rajawadi Hospital where he was declared dead on admission.

Work is on to rescue the other worker, identified as Mahesh K. Dashrath, who is trapped under the rubble, said an official of BMC Disaster Control.

Three fire tenders and personnel of other rescue agencies are engaged in the operations.
