Mandya, May 8: District superintendent of polie, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, has suspended an assistant sub-inspector of police, and five police constables on the allegation of abetting illegal sand mining activity.

The suspended officials are Nagesh, assistant sub-inspector attached to KRS police station, constables, Bommayya, Krishna, Madhu, Shyam, and Laxmish. These officials have been acted upon after checking their mobile phone calls, it is gathered.

It is said that the suspended officials were having connections with people indulging in illegal sand mining at various spots within Srirangapatna and Pandavapura taluks.

District deputy commissioner, Dr Ajay Nagabhushan, has suspended chief officer of Malavalli town municipality, C Puttaswamy, for dereliction of duty. President of the municipality, vice president, and some councillors had complained to the department of urban development and civic administration about the chief officer. During investigation, some of the allegations were found to be prima facie true. The order says that they have been kept under suspension as further investigation is felt necessary in case of some complaints.
