Karkal, May 10: In the elections held for the post of President and Vice president in Karkala taluk panchayat on May 10, BJP’s Malini S Shetty and Gopala Moolya are unanimously elected as president and vice president. Former taluk panchayat Vice president Malini S Shetty is elected President for the second time. She has represented Hirgana Taluk panchayat constituency. Gopala Moolya has represented Mundkooru constituency.
BJP has 19 members and Congress has one member in the 20 member Karkala taluk panchayat. Kundapur assistant commissioner S Ashwathi was the election officer. Taluk panchayat executive officer Chennappa Moily was present. Vidhana Sabha chief whip and MLA V Sunil Kumar presented flower bouquet to the winners and congratulated them.

Bantwal, May 10: Chandrahasa Karkera and Abbas Ali B M of Congress party are elected as president and vice president respectively unopposed in the recent Taluk panchayat elections. Mangaluru commissioner Dr Ashok D R conducted the election process in taluk panchayat auditorium, B C Road on Tuesday, May 10.
The government had announced reservation of general category for the post of President and backward class A category for vice president.
There was competition between Mudipu block congress president Chandrahasa Karkera and land development bank vice president Sanjiva Poojary. As per the decision of party higher ups, the name of senior Congress member and former Taluk panchayat vice president Chandrahasa Karkera was finalized as the candidate for President. The name of Panemangalore block president Abbas Ali was decided as the candidate for vice president.
The two members submitted their nominations to the election officer in the presence of party leaders on Tuesday morning at 11 am. As no nominations were filed by the BJP, in the election held at 3 pm, the new President and the Vice president were elected unopposed. Tahsildar Purandara Hedge and executive officer Cyprian Miranda helped in the process.
Bantwal Taluk panchayat has 34 members. One position has increased due to re-division. Congress has 22 members and has a majority, BJP had won 12 seats. In the circumstances Congress had easily became the ruling party.
District in charge minister B Ramanath Rai, Zilla panchayat members Chandraprakash Shetty, M S Mohammed, Padmashekar Jain, Manjula Madhava Mave, Mamatha Gatti, Akrama Sakrama committee president Mayilappa Salian, party leaders, activists and well-wishers garlanded and congratulated the new president and vice president celebrating with fireworks.
The newly elected president and vice president are block presidents of Mudipu block and Panemangalore block. As their term is expiring, there will be elections in both the blocks. Chandrahasa Karkera has the experience of being taluk panchayat vice president in 2005.
