Moodbidri, Oct 23: Vardhamana literary award given by Vardhamana Foundation would be conferred on well-known Kannada-Konkani litterateur Dr Na (Norbert) D’Souza for his Novel Igarjiya Suttalina Hattu Manegalu (10 Houses around the Church). Meanwhile Agrahara Krishnamurthy has bagged the best up-and-coming writer award for his novel ‘Neeru mathu Preeti (Water and Love)
This was announced by Dr Na Mogasale, general director of Vardhamana Foundation after the meeting of the expert panel of jury under the leadership of Kulyadi Madhav Pai here on Sunday October 21.
Dr Na D’Souza has written more than 25 novels and short stories, children’s dramas etc. His literary works have been translated to many a language.
A few of his novels such as ‘Kadina Benki’, ‘Dveepa’, ‘Baluvali’ have been made into movies and achieved tremendous success. He is also the recipient of Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Sandesha Award, Sahitya Academy award, Niranjan Award and Chaduranga Award. Recently he was awarded honorary doctorate by Kuvempu University.
Agrahara Krishnamurthy who hails from Koratagere taluk has already carved a niche for himself in Kannada literary world. He has obtained degree from Government College in Bangalore before securing post-graduation degree in Kannada from Bangalore University. He has worked for Dharwad and Bangalore Akashvani and at present he is offering his services as secretary of Central Sahitya Academy.
Krishnamurthy is the recipient of prestigious Kempe Gowda award, Karnataka Sahithya Academy award, S R Patil award has been given to him for his Novels ‘Darakibo’ ‘Dyana’ Niru, Preeti.
‘Darakibo’, ‘Dhyana’ and `Neeru mathu' Preeti are his published Kannada work.
