Bihar government orders arrest of JD-U legislator Manorama Devi

Patna, May 11 (IANS) : A day after Janata Dal-United (JD-U) legislator Manorma Devi was suspended by the party, the Bihar government issued an arrest warrant against her following the recovery of liquor bottles from her residence in Gaya town, police said on Wednesday.

Manorma Devi's son Rocky Yadav, who was arrested on Tuesday from a house in Bodh Gaya for murdering a teenager, was later sent to 14-day's judicial custody by a Gaya court, police said.

"The state government has issued an arrest warrant against Manorma Devi and sealed a room of her residence where some liquor bottles were seized during a police raid on Monday night during a search for her son," a district police officer in Gaya said.

(Tottal prohibition was imposed in Bihar on April 1.)

Meanwhile, Manorma Devi has gone underground after the arrest warrant was issued against her.

Principal Secretary of Registration and Excise Department, K.K.Pathak said the legislator would soon be arrested.

"Legal action as per the new excise law was taken against her following recovery of liquor bottles from the residence," he said.

According to excise official Vikash Singh, six bottles of liquor were recovered.

Gaya senior Superintendent of Police Garima Malik said that Rocky had confessed to the fatal shooting of businessman's son Aditya Sachdeva on Saturday night for overtaking his car on the Bodh Gaya-Gaya road.

Police have also seized the pistol used in the crime, she said. The licence for the pistol was issued in Delhi.

Malik said a separate case will be filed on charge of violation of the liquor ban in Bihar.

With Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asserting that no guilty will be spared, police promised to file a charge sheet within a month.

Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Sunil Kumar said: "Police have been working to complete investigations in the case within three weeks. The charge sheet will be filed within a month to ensure speedy trial."

Aditya's family has demanded a speedy trial to ensure justice.

The Ethics Committee of the Bihar Legislative council should meet and recommend cancellation of her membership as Manorama Devi is setting a bad example as a lawmaker. She should first submit herself to the law of the land and then seek justice.Such punishment should not be reserved only for Mallya but for many Mallyas' in the country like Manorama Devi and others who go underground.

And I remember all Bihar legislators taking oath on the floor if the house saying they will never drink again!. I think if police raid every Bihar legislators house, office! 99% of elected MLA's will be in jail!. Same thing I Gujarat and kerala!. I know from my own experience that you can get any brand in Gujarat at 50% more price!. Prohibition is a gimmick and will never work in India!. All said and done, Modiji has to show at least 10% courage of Nitish Kumar. Modi and BJP supported many MP's and Ministers when they were accused of serious offenses!

I salute Bihar CM Nitish Kumar for ordering arrest his own JD-U legislator following the recovery of liquor bottles from her residence.
Her son Rocky Yadav, was also arrested for murdering a teenager.
INC had arrested Cabinet Minister Suresh Kalmadi, DMK Ministers on corruption charges.
However, PM Modi didn't show courage to arrest rape accused cabinet colleague Nihalchand.
Even Mallya & IPL Modi were let off!

    Dear Mr. Shetty,
You are blinded by the Love to Mr. Modi, therefore can't see his wrongs.
Fundamentals of democracy lies in constructively criticizing the wrongs and appreciating the right for the benefit of the nation and humanity.
I wish you and majority would understood this, the nation would be a better place to live in.
I know Bihar, U.P are far worst places, Pakistan, Afghanistan are even worst, it doesn't mean, we should be inspired by the worst. We should be inspired by the best.

A man of action, a man of integrity, a man of honour is Nitish Kumar - a genuine leader among so many Fekus.

May this be the beginning of the end of "Fekism in Indian Politics".

Karnataka has much to learn from Nitish Kumar.

Earlier the Bihar Police warned the legislator to show the location of her son, if not the police is going to arrest her for hiding a criminal.
Similarly the Karnataka govt/Police should give such warning to the vakil of NARI from Kudla, or else the vakil should be arrested for hiding the facts about the location of absconding NARI.....Well done BIHAR GOVT....
