Sullia, Oct 23: Bitten by the love bug, a youth tried to kill his fiancée with a gun before he shot himself to death at Aranthod, near here on Tuesday October 23 morning.

The youth died instantly, while his lover lies in a critical condition at a hospital in Mangalore.  The youth Vinod, shot his neighbour Prithvi (18), daughter of Dayanand Bana, a resident of Deraje Bana in Aranthod village here.  Vinod was in deep love with Prithvi, and wanted to end both of their lives who waited in a hillock nearby her house in the early hours of Tuesday. Vinod fired Prithvi  when she appeared in the courtyard.

The bullet penetrated her stomach.  As her family members heard the shot, they rushed to her rescue, as Vinod shot himself  and died on the spot.  It is learnt that the extremes of love has been involved in this tragedy.  Vinod was known to come to Prithvi’s house very often and was pleading her to love him.  However she refused all his pleas.  Hence, anguished at not accepting his pleas might have been the cause behind this act.

Prithvi’s father Dayanand Bana has contested for Taluk Panchayat polls and is popular in the locality.
