Mangalore Oct 23: Kasaragod and Kerala-bound commuters were in trouble on Monday October 22 as the bus service on Kasaragod-Mangalore highway was affected owing to the agitation staged by bus drivers and cleaners opposing the assault on the driver and conductor near at Uppala gate on Sunday October 21st evening, sources said.
Commuters were found in large numbers on Mangalore-Kasaragod bus platform at the city bus stand here as they were ignorant of the agitation.
It was also not surprising development that some of them were moving towards railway station to go to Kerala by train while some of them decided to reach Talapady by city buses and thereafter by Kerala buses to reach intended destinations. But majority of them decided to return home finding that continuing to Kerala amidst all odds would not be safe.
The agitation was staged opposing the assault on Jagannath (45), driver and Ramesh (28), conductor of an express bus who were dragged forcefully from the bus at Uppala and thrashed by nearly fifty miscreants. Opposing this other bus drivers staged protest. Realizing that the situation was going out of hands, police resorted to mind caning to control the condition.
