Udupi: Swarna river water will last till June first week: MLA Madhwaraj

Udupi, May 14: “Water in Swarna river is enough for Udupi till June first week,” said MLA Pramod Madhwaraj after visiting the water lifting point at Gondyadka, Bhandaribettu on Saturday, May 14.

MLA inspected the water lifting work at Bhandaribettu point and instructed to speed up the work. 

Speaking to media persons after examining the water level of Swarna river, he said, “The water is enough till June first week. The recent report shows that water level has dipped to 2.08 meter even after two days of rain. If it does not rain till June, we will have find alternative ways for water.”

“Three pumps of 110 hb capacity will be set up to lift water from river. As many as six days are needed for the completion of work. The pumps will be set up in three phase at Bhandaribettu, Puttige bridge and at Puttige Math. The distance from Baje to Bhandaribettu is about six kilometers.”

“After seeing water in the river, we are confident that it will last till monsoon begins. We can manage water till June first week.”

“Seven village panchayats namely Kadekar, Alevoor, 80 Badagubettu, Mudbettu, Bommarabettu, Athrady and Kodibettu will be supplied water from here,” he added.

Udupi CMC commissioner Manjunwthayya, president Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, vice president Sandhya,assistant engineer Ganesh, all councillors and party members visited the place.
