Director Gareth Edwards exits 'Godzilla 2'

Los Angeles, May 15 (IANS): Gareth Edwards has departed as director of “Godzilla 2” after helming the 2014 reboot for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures.

The exit comes three days after Warner Bros moved the release of “Godzilla 2” to March 22, 2019. It was scheduled to hit the screens on June 8, 2018.

A source close to Edwards indicated that his decision was not related to any difficulties with the material or the "Godzilla" franchise, but rather a desire to do smaller projects after directing two big-budget films "Godzilla" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" back-to-back, reports variety.com.

Warner Bros and Legendary partnered on “Godzilla”, which grossed $529 million worldwide.
