Bengal boat capsize toll rises to 13


Kolkata, May 16 (IANS): The death toll in a boat capsize in the Hooghly river in West Bengal's Burdwan district rose to 13 on Monday, an official said.

The overcrowded boat capsized late Saturday night near Kalna in Burdwan while on its way to Shantipur in Nadia district.

"Search operations continued overnight and till Monday morning we have fished out 13 bodies," said an officer of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

Nadia district magistrate Vijay Bharti on Sunday said at least 12 people were reported missing.
