PM's Somalia remark will impact BJP's prospects in Kerala : Antony

Thiruvananthapuram, May 16 (PTI) : Congress leader A K Antony today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's controversial Kerala-Somalia comparison will impact the prospects of BJP, which has been pulling out all the stops in its bid to open its account in Kerala Assembly.

"Modi had compared Kerala to Somalia, which is infamous for starvation deaths and sea pirates. The pride of Keralites has been hurt," Antony told reporters after exercising his franchise at a booth here.

"The Prime minister had an opportunity to apologise for the remark, but he did not do that," the former Defence Minister said, adding the remark would affect the BJP's prospects.

Modi, while addressing an election rally here, had compared the infant deaths in some tribal areas in the state with that to Somalia.

However, BJP defended the Prime Minister, saying people were "twisting facts" and he had only highlighted the plight of the tribal community in the state and his desire was to improve their living conditions.

Expressing confidence that Kerala will create history by voting to power the UDF government again, Antony said the Marxist-led LDF will have to sit in the opposition for the next five years and BJP will not open its account.

This will be a vote against the politics of violence and communalism and it will be a vote for peace, he said.

The attack on RMP candidate K K Rema at Vatakara will prove dangerous for the LDF, he added.

Antony must comeout of his achievents when he was minister rather(if he has any) than cashing on PMS comments on Somalia. I agree MOdi should have been careful as Kerala is a educated state but I do not think some congis themselves allegedly involved several scandals have any moral right to dispute on a useless issue like Somalia comparison. Congis have no other issues. If they continue to speak about silly issues congi will lose this elections. People will think they have no issues

Following is the example where politicians have no concern about poor. There were 3 poor people asking for desperate help through a TV channel .All these 3 belongs to one of the states going for elections now or shortly . My friend personally wrote to the male CM asking their identities rendering cash financial help to solve their problems temporarily .CM secretary called my friend in Mangalore and said he will get details of these poor people and confirmed he is aware of the story and confirmed he will find out the credentials and revert quickly as possible. I followed up with him and he confirmed he will provide details and then latter he said he is on vacation(Through a SMS message) and on and on and on and on . Finally I gave up the efforts as its useless to follow up with these guys who have no interest towards poor. All these 3 people whole state knows their story as it came in all prominent TVS and its 5 mins work to give their details for Govt dept. I reiterate once again these politicians have no interest poor peoples affairs and they are least bothered. Its almost 6 months passed now and dead silence . Very very pathetic .

While the State of Gujarat is far behind in everything related to daily comfort of human life when compared to Kerala like the standard of living-healthcare-education-life span-child mortality-vaccination rate-drinking water etc etc, how this total fake rhetoric, like the Rs. 15 lakh/person black money bluffing can be delivered?

And till 1991, hardly anyone taken this party seriously. So the party organization started expanding in the 90s.. But since they are driven by hindi people, it was difficult for them to foray into the south expect for Karnataka. Bjp grows with Rss support that is not a suspense. @Rajesh, Udupi: Let me explain better for you about BJP. Jana Sangha formed in 1951 as a political party. When it could not buy one seat in whole India, few partied merged to form Janatha Party in 1977 and won the elections with the help of communists. Vajapayee was the minister of external affair in that government headed by M Desai who could only manage the govt for 2 years. In 1980 the coalition broke and BJP came out as an independent party and in 1984 elections got only 2 seats from all over India. One of those member wanted to be the PM and started to divide the nation by frequent rath yatras which resulted in getting more seats but power hungry BJP was able to form the government for only 13 days in 1996. In 1998, BJP formed NDA and rath yatras continued. The jhoot about Ram Mandir resulted in defeat in 2004 that kicked them out for 10 years. The corruption from the congress coupled with fake promises of good governance, 15 lack, black money an d so on brought them back to power in 2014. Now that jhoot is going to have effect just like that ram mandir in 2004. BJP need some jhoot to come to power and that's what J stands for in BJP.

He has no knowledge of Indian History or culture. He is very weak in parliamentary democracy and the best example was decision of terminating popularly elected Govt U.Kand and their after going against HC order.

I think all politicians including gentleman Antony are now talking non-issues rather issues....

    Very sad...

If you really need help from someone better to project you are poor. If you project you are rich, no-one will help you.

Kerala lost its opportunity to get center's help, just because they project themselves like US...

In Gulf countries, Kerala people begging for jobs, not Somalia's people. Now decide who is in poor state (of mind)

You saw how the truth hurts, even if you are not poor and you beg for job is not a sin, You need to be humble, You had no right to comment that Keralites are begging for job, they are earning for their living and not cheating people, so please think twice when you comment about others.

Big Mouth FEKU went to Bihar and told 'Tum logon ke DNA mein hi problem hai'...!

During Delhi Assembly elections too, he spoke about Kerjriwal, very cheaply!

When FEKU was giving his speeches during 2014 LS elections, he used to say 'Yeh bhi koi Desh hai? Humein Bharatiya kehelaane ko bhi sharm aati hai. Lagta hai, hum yahan paida kyon huye' (He was cursing himself for taking birth in India!).
If the same statement was given by Non-BJP leader, then Bhakths would have brought sky down to earth!!!

Paul. Kerala a ' nice' place? are you day dreaming? There are no factories and establishments due to trade unions. Keralites travel to Gulf or other neighbouring states for work. Plenty of them are trying to relocate to Mlore or Blore. Education too Mallus flock to Mlore. No good hospitals either, Mlore is their desired destination for treatment. You cannot unload your own luggage at your house. Come on. The tribals do no wear anything except for a loin cloth & live in pathetic conditions. They are often raped by drunk college students. Its no paradise Bro.

Kerala can be likened to West Bengal. Both were being ruled by Communists for long periods, with less production and more strikes and lockouts under red flag. Tripura is the only state that witnesses some progress under the CPM.
