Fr Richard Menezes chosen for Francis Danthi literature award

Udupi, May 17: Fr Richard Menezes, OCD has been chosen as the recipient of Francis Danthi Memorial Literature Award. The award is conferred to him for his literary translation of the Kannada book ‘Louis Martin matthu Zelie Gerin, Kraisthiya Kutumbagalige Maadari’, (Louis Martin and Zelie Gerin, a role model to the Christian families) to Konkani.


“The award will be given away on June 12 at St Mary’s English School grounds, Kannarpady, here, during the conferential meet of Catholic Sabha, Udupi diocese. The purchase of the translated Konkani book will be made available on that day,” announced Louis D’Almeida, convener of the association.

About Fr Richard Menezes, OCD:

Fr Richard hails from Belur. A B Com graduate, he has won a gold medal from the KSOU University. He has also been blessed with the talent of singing, and has lent his voice for many devotional numbers released by the Carmelite congregation. Currently he is the editor for ‘Jeeva Jala’, a Kannada monthly and a spiritual director of the ‘Bengaluru Federation of Konkani Catholic Association’.

About Louis Martin and Zelie Gerin:

The catholic couples are the parents of St Theresa, little flower of Lisieux, France. On October 18, 2015, Pope Francis had presided over the rite of canonizing the couples as saints of the Holy Church at St Peter’s Square, Rome. They had been beatified as ‘The Blessed’ on October 19, 2008.
