Bhatkal, May 17: The demand for drinking water has increased here in between cloudy weather indicating rain. More than 3 lac litres of water has been supplied and another 50 thousands litres of water is required in taluk.

During a panchayat meeting on Monday, May 16, Bhatkal taluk panchayat president Ishwar Naik took the PDO officials to task warning that they will be held responsible if discrimination is found in supply of drinking water.

The president who obtained information on supply of drinking water said that allegations of discrimination in supply of water were reported at Padushirali, Shiralia. “Department engineers should be taken along if there are technical problems. Several wells have dried up due to excessive heat. Do not neglect scarcity of water anywhere. Remember that people do not ask for water during monsoons. The officials have not responded even to my calls regarding problems faced by citizens. Such behaviour cannot be tolerated hence forth. Give priority to complete irrigation works and ensure that the problems do not recur during in future,” he said. 

“Permission from the railways department is necessary to complete works undertaken at Mutalli gram panchayat limits and you have to write to the deputy commissioner,” he said.

Vice-president Radha Vidya spoke about scarcity of water at Mundalli, Yalvadikavoor and Shirali. Members Hanmantha Naika and Vishnu Devadiga drew the attention of member Meenakshi Jattapa Naika towards discrimination in providing water. 

Tahsildar V N Badkar and Taluk panchayat executive officer C T Naika were present.
