Will introspect over causes of poll debacle: Sonia

New Delhi, May 19 (PTI) : With Congress losing power in Assam and Kerala, party President Sonia Gandhi today said it would introspect over the causes of the debacle and work with "greater vigour" for the services of the people.

"We will introspect into the reasons for our loss and will rededicate ourselves to the service of the people with greater vigour", Gandhi said in a statement.

Extending her best wishes to the leaders of the winning parties, Gandhi hoped that good governance and development shall remain the centre point of political discourse.

"Congress accepts the verdict of the people of Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala with utmost humility. I thank all the voters who participated in strengthening our democratic process during these elections as also the Congress workers and leaders who worked hard during the campaign", she said.

She congratulated people of Puducherry for giving the mandate to the party. Congress has been losing election after election after the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in which it had come out with its worst ever performance, securing just 44 seats in the 543-member House.

It had since lost power in Maharashtra, Haryana, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. It also failed to perform creditably in tribal dominated Jharkhand.

The remarks of Gandhi as also several other party leaders suggest that the AICC could go in for a brainstorming session soon to generate fresh ideas and a strategy that could help it overcome the challenging political situation.

Gandhi is at the helm of the party since March 1998 and has created a record of sorts by being the longest serving chief of the Congress.

Her son Rahul Gandhi was made party Vice President in January 2013 at the Jaipur Chintan shivir held over a year ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in which he was the "face" of the party. Since then Rahul has been more active in the organisation, with the Congress President taking a backseat.

The problem with the congress is that grand old people like tarun gogoi or any other they dont want to leave the chair. I think Rahul ghandhi instead of asking them to leave the chair must convince them somehow to help the younger generation to make them move forward. It is politics we cannot see for another 10 years Rahul ghandhi winning until these grand old people lose and move out or be sidelined. till then Rahuls ideology ,may not work. Look at how BJP easily sidelined grand old leaders like Advani, or murli manohar joshi etc.
It is not happening in Congress. The thing is Congress doesn't know to remove these leaders as they think they have strong foothold in their own regions. It may be true.
I think in another 10 years there is no doubt the line is clear for BJP. it may or may not be Modi any leader from BJP could emerge as PM.
But for congress its becoming harder and harder. they have to work too hard.regional party leaders are not working for the party but are making groupisms and confusing Rahul and congress.the point is congress is not getting strong regional leaders because of these age old leaders who are not allowing others to come to limelight.
I think the only solution is these regional leaders should themselves lose and then resign from the party that is only best solution but by then BJP would have grown stronger.
One party being strong in democracy may not be a good sign always. there should always be a stronger opposition as well

Congress should introspect but they need to make deep changes to get revived. Otherwise no doubt we can see congress mukth Bharath.

1.They can chose Priyanka as their leader.

2.Change al old teams and come up with some new faces who have got good team building spirit.

3.Encourage booth level workers, build from root.

4.Bring back all Operation Kamala victims.

Now congress should realize that Modi wave is diminished and people still vote for BJP in only localized areas.

If Congress leadership is smart they would encashed BJP's poor governance.

    Jago Congress jago........

I still believe Congress could be party at least knows how to give governance not best but at least Ok rather than U-TURNS.

Madam Sonia, if you choose Tarun Gogoi as CM candidate who will vote him? He need 2 people's help to walk. Do you think it is 70s or 80s ZAMANA so that people will click the button either for "PETHHA KANJI" or KAI.

Madam Sonia, Introspection is required if your and RAhul's decisions are correct. You need to be more accommodative so that people like us can remain with the grand old party. I feel this party is destroyed because of wrong decisions taken time and again. Where is the expert team during elections, why not counter speeches to Modi's, why no talks when the party is accused of corruption? If the party is clean, you must attack the ones who make wrong news. Sorry to see this party in this disarray.

Indian National Congress after independence, took first step towards creating MODERN INDIA armed with nothing but GREAT VISION and 5 year plans.

Today India is worlds powerful economy and military power, We are self reliant to a great extent and no one can dispute the fact that it is an outcome of INC’s governance since 1950 till 2014.

Today India’s industries, IT prowess, ISRO, scientists, bridges, dams, green revolution and education are indispensable part of our lives.

We all will feel proud about INC & its contribution when we use this great road network.

Will BJP/RSS stop false propaganda about INC that it has done nothing for India for the last 60 years?

Whatever you complaint now are the results of your congress govt. Even now there are families at remote places without electricity and are seeing for first time under current govt since independence. Thousands of crores of tax payers money also went to one family and its chelas which you can never see. This is called slavery at its best.

Congress can never revive and regain its lost glory until and unless there is an end to dynastic leadership. The Gandhi family must give way to dynamic, truly secular (not sickular) and capable leaders with unblemished background from various states to come to the national capital.

It is too late to introspect.
You should have started introspecting the moment Congress\UPA was thrashed in LS.
I did not see anything that was done to boost the morale of the Party that had lost the election miserably and kept on only licking the wounds even after 2 years had passed.
Instead, like I had said earlier when UPA lost, they should have sent the Congress bigwigs and importantly the young ones to meet the people to explain them what wrong BJP was doing without calling names. Facts and figures...
What ensued after LS was just war of words\name callings and almost nothing done to rejuvenate the Party Morale. No young leaders to interact with voters and the old ones looked so old and unable to infuse confidence in people that they are capable of coming back.
Even now it is not too late if vigorously campaigned, to win the trust\confidence of the voters.
In my opinion, Sonia Gandhi should step aside and Rahul Gandhi should go for political classes and learn to ORATE. Leave aside name calling.
See that wherever Congress is in power to do good to the people and not just think of only "Money making". Publish\inform the public what you are doing and what you have accomplished.
Go Go Go...otherwise just sit still and let others do what is to be done.

Congress should come out of Anti-Hindu image...that's the only way...no need for Modi to be happy because BJP will win only were Congress is in opposition...Modi will not work out in front of other parties and only problem with the Congress party is the ant Hindu image...

If Sonia Gandhi is really interested in reviving the party, she should promote someone else in place of her son Rahul Gandhi. But no, she will not do that because her inner circle advisers will always say that Rahul is the best person for the post.

with fifteen long years rule in Assam and a strong anti incumbacy factor, the outcome was predictable. Kerala swings like a pendulam every five years between the UDF and the LDF. Tamilnadu and West Bengal as well as Kerala have totally rejected the BJP inspite of Modi's campaign. Regional parties are getting stronger and national parties are being decimated which is not a healthy sign. Its just two years since the last elections and it is quite likely that Congress will make a comeback after their introspection.
