Moodbidri, Oct 27: Sudden heavy showers accompanied by lightning and thunder created havoc for a few hours in Hosabettu near here on Thursday evening.

At Birav-Taj Mahal, four houses have been severely damaged. Lightning hit a tree near the house of Dulcine Goveas and passed into the compound wall and the house. A window crashed leaving its panes in splinters.

Her sons Alwyn and Urban and grandson Gladson have sustained shock and are now recovering. The entire electrical wiring network has been charred and roof has been torn apart. Electronic gadgets also have perished. The revenue officials who visited the place have estimated the loss at Rs 30,000.

Shivananda, a resident, was hit on the face by lightning, resulting in severe burn injuries. Sundari, wife of Narayana Poojari of Birav-Anegudde, has been injured in the lightning strike and hospitalized.

The house of Satish Poojary also has been hit and electrical wiring is in a charred state. Some electrical appliances also have been burnt by the hit.
