23-year-old African youth beaten to death in New Delhi

New Delhi, May 21 (PTI) A 23-year-old Congolese national was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area, police said Saturday.

The incident took place around 11.45 pm Friday when the man, M T Olivia had a heated argument with a group of three persons at Kishangadh locality in Vasant Kunj.
“A case of murder has been registered. We are checking CCTV footage to identify the accused,” additional DCP (South) Nupur Prasad said.
What exactly led to the argument between Olivia and the group is yet to be ascertained. The case is being probed from all angles including robbery and a possible racist attack on the African national.

The Embassy of Congo has been informed about the incident.

Olivia taught foreign languages at a private institute here. He lived in South Extension area. Why he had gone to Kishangadh at that hour has also not been ascertained yet, police said.

It was another group of locals who rescued Olivia and called up police. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The locals, however, could not identify the perpetrators or say what had led to the incident. Investigation is underway, police added.

Ironically this Kejriwal is after degree certificate of various leaders and doesnt know what is happening in his back yard. The only joke he will crack now is the police is not under his control and blame the center.

It is a fact, Mr. Rodrigous that Police dept is not under Kejriwal's control, hence we can't blame him for this incident. That apart, unfortunately no govt. can do anything in case the people of this country are unsophisticated, intollerent and mannerless. we should correct ourselves so that our society improves.

POLICE IS NOT DOING THEIR DUTY PROPERLY. THEY PLAY DOUBLE GAME & SMART PLAY FOR MONEY/CORRUPTION. YOU CANT TRUST POLICE. THEY ARE THE ONE CREATE CRIMINALS BY TAKING MONEY. THEY ARE ONLY SIDE OF MONEY & HARASSMENT FOR MONEY. YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THEM.

Treat these foreigners respectfully. They are our guests. Don't spoil the name of our country. Indians are the largest expatriates living in foreign countries. We are there even in Congo. God forbid, if they retaliate. So please live and let live...

It is sad that as you have stated, many people don't have such a sense of hospitality to treat the foreigners with respect. The vast majority of the foreigners who are studying-working and visiting India are decent people. This bad news will create terrible response towards the Indians living abroad.
    Very sad new to hear.

Please do not consider the non resident Africans who are living in India as any other foreign nationals. These people have no respect to our laws, no respect to Indians and they see themselves as above law of this land.
All non-green drugs are mostly circulated by these guys.
As we say there are always some black sheep in the herd, i say there are some white sheep too in this group of Africans.

i don't think you expect the same treatment to the Indians who are living in foreign countries. The murderers should be punished. Hang until death. Let Indians learn to respect foreigners as we have been respected in other countries.
