New Tripura High Court chief justice appointed


Agartala, May 21 (IANS): The president has appointed Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei as the new chief justice of the Tripura High Court, officials said here on Saturday.

A senior judicial official of Tripura High Court said that union law and justice ministry in a notification on Friday said the president had appointed Justice Vaiphei, senior-most judge of the Tripura High Court.

The official said that Justice Vaiphei, 60, who was administered oath of office by the Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy on May 16, replaced Deepak Kumar Gupta, who was transferred as the chief justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

Separate high courts were set up in 2013 in Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya which were earlier under the jurisdiction of the Gauhati High Court which was common for all the seven northeastern states, except Sikkim.
