Kabul, May 21 (IANS): The Indian government has pledged $1 million for the annual routine maintenance of a school in Kabul.
The fund will be utilised for replacement of electricity transformers, immediate civil repairs, modernisation programme and annual routine maintenance in Habibia High School, Khamaa Press reported on Saturday.
"India will grant financial assistance of $1 million to Habibia High School over a period of 10 years," a statement from the Indian embassy in Kabul said.
Habibia High School, one of the largest schools in Afghanistan, was established in 1904 by King Habibullah.
The school was renovated with the assistance of the Indian government between 2003 and 2006.
The renovated building was jointly inaugurated by Hamid Karzai, then president of Afghanistan, and former prime minister Manmohan Singh.
