FIFA's acting Secretary General Markus Kattner sacked

Zurich, May 24 (IANS): FIFA's acting secretary general, the German-Swiss Markus Kattner, was dismissed with immediate effect, after an internal investigation had uncovered "breaches of fiduciary responsibilities in connection with his employment contract".

FIFA announcing the dismissal said FIFA will not comment further on any of the details but will maintain the collaboration with the relevant authorities, Efe news agency reported.

Kattner had been acting secretary general after his predecessor Jerome Valcke, the right-hand man to the FIFA president Joseph Blatter, was banned after being involved in the illegal sale of tickets for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

With the new FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, he continued as FIFA's number two until the beginning of May, when the president announced the appointment of Fatma Sangoura, the Senegalese UN official, as the new FIFA secretary general.
