Landslides strand people on China-Pakistan highway


Beijing, May 26 (IANS): Landslides triggered by continuous rain blocked several sections of the China-Pakistan highway, stranding over 100 vehicles and more than 200 people.

The landslides on Wednesday mainly occurred in Bulungkol township, Akto county in Xinjiang Uygur region, the People's Daily reported on Thursday.

Police were mobilised to clear the road of debris.

Food, drinks and medicine were sent to the stranded passengers.

Traffic on the highway remains suspended, police said.

The China-Pakistan Highway is a pivotal route connecting China with Tajikistan and Pakistan.
