Ruckus in Jammu and Kashmir assembly

Srinagar, May 27 (IANS): The proceedings of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly were disrupted on Friday as opposition members stormed to the speaker's podium to protest against a variety of issues, including what they termed the government's failure to implement the food safety act.

As the day's proceedings started, MLAs of the opposition National Conference (NC) and the Congress stormed to the speaker's podium shouting slogans against the state government's alleged failure in clearing the confusion over the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and demanding justice for a resident of Handwara town who was allegedly molested by security personnel.

Independent MLA from Langate constituency Abdul Rashid Sheikh also clashed with the security staff.

Former chief minister and NC leader Omar Abdulla remained seated as his party legislators disrupted the proceedings.
