Worker dies dismantling dais on Red Road, compensation ordered


Kolkata, May 28 (IANS): One of the workers who were dismantling the temporary giant structure of the dais made for the swearing-in ceremony of Mamta Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal died on Saturday after he fell from the stage, police said.

"While dismantling the temporary structure of the dais on the Red Road (now renamed Indira Gandhi Sarani), one of the workers Goutam Naskar of Baruipur somehow fell down from the dais .

"He was taken to SSKM Hospital with serious bleeding and head injuries but doctors declared him dead there," said city Joint Commissioner of Police Supratim Sarkar. 

"It was an accident and unfortunate incident. As compensation, the state government will give Rs.2 lakh to his family and a job will be given to a family member," state Fire and Emergency Services Minister and Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee told IANS. 

At the grand public ceremony on Friday, Banerjee was sworn in as chief minister for her secodn term along with her council fo ministers.

Thousands of supporters as well as eminent personalities, both from India and abroad, witnessed the programme.
