Mangaluru, May 30: Four suspected blackmailers were arrested while blackmailing Putthige Guddeyangadi priest Raghavendra Poojary for Rs 2 lac and threatening to kill him. They have been ordered judicial custody by Moodbidri court. It is said that another suspect, Shishila resident Rohith has escaped.
Mangaluru residents Vishwanath and Rohith Kumar, Bantwal's Gururaj and Moodbidri's Santhosh Poojary are the arrested. The suspects after telephoning to the mobile of Raghavendra had demanded Rs 2 lac. Raghavendra had agreed to pay the money and asked the suspects to come to his house.
The suspects had come in Ritz car to Raghavendra's house on Saturday evening, May 28. The police who were informed about it in advance, were waiting in the house of the priest. They arrested the accused when they arrived.
Priest Raghavendra is said to have driven away evil spirits from a house in Bantwal and received Rs 50,000. However, as the house people did not get relief, they had asked him to return the money. He had refused. The house people had informed about it to Gururaj who is known to them. Gururaj accompanied with three of his friends had tried to get the money from the priest after threatening him on Saturday. However they were arrested in the act.
A police case has been registered in Moodbidri police station and investigation is in progress.
