Udupi, May 30: The CET- KEA pre-counselling and career guidance programme was inaugurated by Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji, Pejawar Math, on Sunday May 29 at Rajangana here.

The programme was jointly organized under the auspices of Paryaya Shri Pejavara Adhokshaja Math, Shri Sode Vadiraja Math Education Trust Udupi (SSVMET) and Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, Udupi.

Pejawar Swamiji in his address said, "India has been emerging as a world-power and engineering has played a pivotal role in transforming the country into a player to reckon with on the world stage. There is need to showcase our talents. Shaping our country's future and its development is everyone's responsibility. This institute has given us a wonderful opportunity. Technology plays an important role in the country’s development."

He urged the students to make use of it. He urged the engineering aspirants, who attended the programme to contribute their bit to the development of the nation and wished them well.

The major objective of the programme was to give guidance to students who had cleared their PUC exams in general and those who had appeared for the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2016 conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) in particular in getting admission for the undergraduate programmes, especially in professional courses.

Balachandra Bhat, former KEA nodal officer for Uttara Kannada district, delivered a talk on ‘CET Counseling Process: What is new this year?’, Dr Vijayendra Rao spoke on prospects and challenges of pursuing a career in engineering, medical and allied fields and Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal of SMVITM delivered a talk on ‘making a brief presentation, profile of a promising, prospective engineering institution: SMVITM, Bantakal' and gave a detailed talk of the major distinguishing features of the institute.

In his session, Dr Rao threw some light on the issues and confusion prevailing with respect to the conduct of NEET and reassured the medical aspirants that the nationwide common entrance test would be rather beneficial to the students than detrimental to their career aspirations.

Ratnakumar, secretary of SSVMET presided over the function. Dr Ganesha A, dean (academics), SMVITM welcomed the gathering and Dr Balachandra Achar, head of the department of electronics and communication engineering gave the vote of thanks. The function commenced with invocation by Aishwarya and Soumya Bhat. Ramyashree compered the programme.
