Cycle enthusiasts take part in valedictory ceremony of national level Cyclothon

Udupi, May 31: Nearly 100 cyclists participated in the valedictory ceremony of national level Cyclothon 2016 held on Sunday, May 26 at Manipal greens open ground here.

























Nagappa Muradi from Vijayapura bagged the first prize of Rs 50,000 and a trophy in pro-race (open category- 50 km) national level Udupi Cyclothon 2016. Basappa Therdul from Vijayapura won the second prize of Rs 35,000 with a trophy and Sandesh Uppar from Vijayapura won the third prize of Rs 25,000 with a trophy. Leena from Germany won the first place of Rs 25,000 with a trophy in pro-race (female-25 km). Seema and Renuka from Wheelsports, Bengaluru received second and third prize of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Machindra came first in amateur race (open category) and won a cash prize of Rs 20,000. Sohail and Ram Jadhav received second and third prizes of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Many of the participants received consolation and special recognition prizes.

Kishore Alwa, director, Adani group addressed the gathering and said that he was inspired by SP Annamalai, who participated in the cycling event, which commenced at Shiroor and went on to Hejamadi (160 km). The event was organized for creating environmental awareness. It also reduces the risk of cardiac arrest, controls BP, sugar and builds the stamina of the body. He assured that, Adani group will always be there to support these creative eco-friendly awareness activities.

A group of cyclists showcased cycle stunts and a professional dancers troupe performed a colourful dance. The audience enjoyed the thrilling performances of the day.

Purushottam Shetty, owner of Ujwal Developers, Yashpal Suvarna, chairman, Undivided Dakshina Kannada and Udupi fish marketing federation, Geethanjali Suvarna, zilla panchayat member, Shruthi Shenoy, entrepreneur, B H Pai, joint director of MIT, Narayan Shenoy, Roshan Shetty, assistant director for youth empowerment and sports department, Suma Nayar, Avinash Suvarna and others were present.

The guests, who were present distributed prizes to the winners. Four people received honour for their achievement in the sports field. The event was jointly organized by Udupi events and Manipal university.
