RIYADH, Nov 1: Police arrested an Indian expatriate who escaped with SR170,000 of his company’s money and then claimed that he was kidnapped, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported yesterday.
The man, a trusted employee with many years’ service behind him, telephoned his sponsor to report that he had been kidnapped while running an errand with the cash. The unsuspecting employer telephoned police, who located the man hiding in the Al-Markab district of Riyadh.
Police arrested the man and learned that he had bought SR70,000 worth of gold, which was sent to India with another Indian. The rest of the money was found in the possession of a third Indian worker, who was also planning on buying gold before leaving for India.
