Kalaburagi: Refusal for incest - uncle torches his own niece

Daijworld Media Network - Kalaburagi (SP)

Kalaburagi, Jun 3: A man from Haravala village in Jewargi taluk in the district, it is said, was attracted towards his own niece. As the girl repeatedly spurned his sexual advances, pointing out to him that the relationship would result in incest, he poured kerosene on her and ignited fire, having been enraged by her refusal.

Chandu Rathod (27), the culprit in the case, absconded after committing this heinous crime. The 19-year-old girl has been fighting for her life at the district hospital here. The police have now laid out a net to nab the absconding accused.

Chandu Rathod, who is married and has two children, used to pester the girl, his niece, to love him. The girl had refused to oblige, duly telling him that the relationship between them was like that of father and daughter, and asking him to shun such thoughts. Still, Chandu continued to approach her whenever there were no one else at home.

On Monday May 30, Chandu again pressurized her to cooperate with him. The girl, frustrated at his attitude, used strong words in order to silence him. Chandu, angered by her retort, doused her in kerosene before starting fire. He thereafter ran away from the house. The girl, writhing in pain and engulfed by flames, was rescued by the neighbours who rushed her to hospital.

The girl, who is battling for life, continues to be treated at the district hospital. The policemen are looking for the culprit.
