Elderly couple shot dead in Uttar Pradesh


Lucknow, June 6 (IANS): An elderly couple was shot dead in their house in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning, police said.

While the motive for the killings is yet to be ascertained, investigators said they could be related to a property dispute.

The deceased Hriday Narayan, 69, was a retired lecturer from Govind Vallabh Pant degree college.

Narayan was asleep with his wife Kanti, 63, in the courtyard of their house when six men barged in and shot them at point blank range.

The men beat up and locked the couple's daughter Kavita and son-in-law Satyendra when they woke up due to the sound of firing.
