Puducherry guv Kiran Bedi bans 'lal battis', CM supports it

Puducherry, Jun 7 (PTI) : Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has banned the use of siren in cars of VIPs in Puducherry and got the backing of Chief Minister V Narayanasamy who said it was aimed at making the union territory “prosperous”.

Last night, a press release issued by Bedi’s Secretary Theva Needhi Das said the ban will also be applicable to escort and pilot vehicles of the Lt Governor. However, emergency services like ambulances and fire service vehicles would be exempted from the restriction on the use of sirens.

Narayanasamy, who took oath as chief minister on Monday, said the goal of the Lt Governor as well as his is a prosperous Puducherry.

Asked whether Bedi was projecting herself as a ‘super CM’, he said, “The goal of the LG is a prosperous Puducherry, our aim is also the same. There is no clash of status, we don’t have any vested interest. We want public service to be done. I have told the media that I will not use government vehicle. Its my personal wish and it is for my cabinet colleagues to decide on that basis.”

The Lt Governor had also directed that no special privileges would be accorded for cars of VIPs such as stopping of traffic, so that people’s right to freedom of movement is not hindered in any manner. She further directed traffic police to ensure that sufficient number of personnel are present for regulating traffic without halting it or inconveniencing commuters.

Please Dear Ms. Kiran Bedi do not take revenge on Cong because you are Governor. Let the Government rule which is elected by people. We know you lost as BJP candidate but now you are NOT BJP governor but behave as Indian governor. Thank you and have a good term.

She has started her dictatorial attitude and this is the first step to facilitate FEKU & DAKU & JOOT-LAY gang to put the president rule in Pondichery so that this woman can at least rule the UT instead of Delhi.

The governors have tremendous constitutional powers. However they have been often considered as rubber stamps. Kiran Bedi in her enthusiasm may overstep her limits and may bring in tension with the government. Otherwise, she will not allow the CM and the ministers to relax. She will keep them on their toes which is good for the people of Puducherry.

No matter where she is, she will always show her dictatorial attitude. The move to ban sirens is welcome. But when there is a elected and popular government at the head, she should have taken that route. If she continues with this attitude then soon we are going to witness "Clashing of the Titans" there. Governors role is not to directly rule a state, except in times of Presidents rule.
