Ballari, Jun 10: A woman assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) here has accused circle police inspector (CPI) of Gandhinagar station here of sexually harassing her. She filed the complaint with the office of the inspector general of police here on Thursday June 9.

She said in the complaint that she has been discharging duty at Gandhinagar police station here since the last ten months. "I have not been able to work properly because of constant harassment by CPI, Kashinath Gowdru. He keeps deriding me with obscene words in singular. He called me into his chamber several times and sexually exploited me. As I opposed these things, he has been targetting me for harsh treatment, and following discriminatory practises in allotting work," she said in her complaint.

The complainant said that the CPI has purposefully directed her to go to New Delhi, arrest an accused from there, and bring him here. "He has threatened me of suspension if I fail to bring the accused from New Delhi. I have been suffering a lot because of these things. Therefore, I request you to take action against him immediately and do justice to me," she has prayed.

Kashinath Gowdru however has denied the allegations. He said that the ASI has levelled baseless allegations against him. "I had told her that as per the instructions of higher officials, she may be needed to arrest an accused from Delhi and bring him here. For this purpose, she was to go there along with a head constable and a constable. She refused to receive the memo issued about this work, and complained to higher officers about sexual harassment," he stated.

District superintendent of police, R Chetan, said that the assistant superintendent of police has been instructed to in vestigate the matter and file a report.
