Mysuru, Jun 12: In an incident which came to light after a year, a minor girl was killed by her own parents as she became pregnant before her marriage. Puttaraja Setty and Neelamma couple from Dasappanahalli in K R Nagar taluk in the district have confessed that they killed their 15-year-old daughter, Suneeta, for fear of the family reputation getting spoilt.

Suneeta, who was minor, had fallen in love with a relative. She was into her sixth month of pregnancy through this relationship. When he came to know of this development, Puttaraja, in a fit of rage, hit his daughter in the temple region with full force. The slap was so hard that Suneeta collapsed and died on the spot. The couple thereafter spread the rumour that their daughter had committed suicide. They placed her body in their field with a bottle of poison by its side. Telling their relatives that filing report of unnatural death with police would sully image of their family, they conducted the funeral of their daughter.

In January 2016, someone shot an anonymous letter to the district superintendent of police, expressing suspicion that the girl would have been murdered by her own parents. Superintendent of police, Abhinav Khare, who took the matter seriously, asked K R Nagar police to investigate the matter. The policemen who conducted investigation found the true culprits.
