M'lore: MSEZ Reserves 685 Acres of Land for Maintaining Greenery

Mangalore, Nov 7: Nearly 685 acres of land out of the 3, 985 acres which will be used for the proposed Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ), will be reserved for the maintenance of the greenery, declared A G Pai, chief operating officer (COO), MSEZ.

Pai was speaking at a special meeting convened with regard to the SEZ project, at the deputy commissioner’s office here, on Tuesday November 6.

Addressing the officials of various government departments, he said that 1,244 acres have been classified as non-processing area. This area consists of green belt, corridor, water storage, amenities and utilities, he added.

According to him 2, 740 acres which is the processing area constitutes of 68.78 per cent of the total acquired area.

In the proposed area ten units of MRPL (under its III phase), 7 units of aromatic complex and 9 units of Olefin complex will come up, he further informed.

The SEZ will require a total of 512 MW electricity and 45 gallons (2, 04,504 lts) of water every day, said Pai.

    We all very well remember the water crisis in M'lore this year. WE CAN'T JUST EVEN THINK WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE PEOPLE OF D. KANNADA ONCE PHASE III BECOMES OPERATIONAL. Already underground water level is constantly decreasing. What will A. G. Pai or MRPL will do to protect the public from the chaotic, dangerous pollution caused by MRPL? There will not be any fresh air to our future generation. If OUR CHILDREN CAN'T LIVE HEALTHY LIFE, THEN WHAT IS THE USE OF THIS INDUSTRIAL PROGRESS?
