Kundapur, Nov 7: “Yakshagana is a perfect and an ancient art of this part of our coastal district and that it is up to the younger generation to preserve, protect and propagate this age-old mass medium of entertainment to other parts of our country,” said Dr H Shantha Ram, the expert educationist, the patron of dance, drama and music and the chief administrator of Manipal University.
He was speaking after presiding over the 32nd state festival in the Bhandarkar’s College here recently.
Basruru Gopalkrishna Achar, famous mono-performer of Yakshagana accompaniments was felicitated on the occasion.
On behalf of the Yakshagana Kala Sangha of the College replying to the felicitation Basruru Gopalkrishna Achar said in all humility that this honor, in fact did not belong to him alone and that it should legitimately belong to all the artists of Yakshagana fraternity which he only represented as a humble artist.
Dr Ramesh Chimbalkar, the coordinator of Yakshagana Kala Sangha welcomed the guests. Another coordinator Prof Madhur Mohana Kalluraya proposed the vote of thanks.
The function came to an end with the performance of two prasangas-Ganga Sarathya and Shalya Sarathya in which the renowned artists of the district participated.
Young artist Pradeepa V Samaga compered the programme.
