Mangalore, Nov 7: Balanjaneya Gymnasium will be organising South-India-level senior, junior and sub-junior power lifting competitions, for men and women categories separately, here from December 4 to December 7, at Town Hall, informed Satish Kumar Kudroli, secretary, Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee of Balanjaneya Gymnasium, to the media persons here on Wednesday, November 7.
The competition will be held as a part of diamond jubilee celebration of Balanjaneya Gymnasium. About 300 weight-lifters are expected to compete in competitions from the five states. The expenses are estimated to be around Rs 4.5 lac. The celebration committee is optimistic that local associations, financial institutions, boards and sports enthusiasts will donate generously, he hoped.
The Gymnasium has been involved in social welfare activities since it was established in 1946. It maintains and updates blood donors' list for blood transfusion to save lives during emergency situations, he added.
The gymnasium has shaped and fine-tuned many state, national and international champions. The late P K Yashodar, Satish Pai and others are examples in this regard. Better results are expected from the gymnasium in the forthcoming competitions, he added.
Purandar Das Kuloor, president, Umesh Gatti, executive committee member, Alexander Mathew, treasurer, B Vasant Salian, secretary, Mohan Raj, supervisor and others from the diamond jubilee celebration committee were present at the press conference.
