Kundapur, Jun 18: A young man who had gone for hunting on the night of Friday June 17, died after he was hit by a bullet at Halageri Myakodu near here.
Prashanth Shetty (23) son of Vittal Shetty is the person deceased.
As per details, Prashanth Shetty was called by Ankith Shetty (23), son of Seetharama Shetty for hunting on Friday night. It is said that Deepu Shetty and Phani from Shiroor were also there with Ankith. They went to a nearby forest with Ankith carrying his father’s gun. At around 2 am, a bullet hit Prashanth on the chest. Though the people around tried their best to rush the injured Prashanth to hospital, he succumbed to injury on the way.
Locals have expressed suspicions about who could have shot Prashanth. As soon as the Byndoor police heard about the case, they took Ankith into custody and also seized the gun licensed in his father’s name.
The statement given by Ankith does not answer many questions. Instead, it has complicated the case. He has said that when they went for hunting, a group of four to five persons was also seen in the forest and one of them shot at Prashanth. Ankith also said that the group fled in a car after the shooting. Police sources said that Ankith changed his version later. Meanwhile his father Seetharama Shetty told the police that the firing was done while loading the gun.
These statements indicate that Prashanth might have been murdered. But there are all contradicting.
Ankith, Seetharama, Deepu and Phani have been taken into police custody.
A clear picture would emerge only after investigations, police sources said.
Locals said that Ankith runs a bakery in Bengaluru and had come to hometown three days back. Deepu previously lived in Mumbai. They said that Ankith took Prashanth to a bar with his other two friends and had heavy drinks. Then Prashanth was taken for hunting.
