Saudi, Nov 9: Syed Zia ur Rahman, CEO, YaHind.Com called on the parents to inject new thinking while considering the options for their children future career.
He made this suggestion on the occasion of Eid-Milaap function organized to coincide with the 52nd Andhra Pradesh formation day by Andhra Pradesh United Society (APUS) in Riyadh here on Thursday November 8.
Speaking on the occasion he said that at present, the majority of them choose only three major fields either medical, engineering or computer science as professional courses for their children, leaving many other promising courses behind.
Zia said, “I never thought that one day I shall be asked to be the chief guest and deliver a speech on the ‘Importance of Journalism in today’s context’”.
“Although I am not a journalist by profession, I took up this field as a hobby when I launched my website, ziaonline.com, which was later converted into a full-fledged NRIs portal known as yahind.com,” he said.
The journey of ziaonline.com and its subsequent change to yahind.com represents a journey of hope and encouragement, he added.
He further stressed the importance of journalism in the present era and urged the people to take up this course as their profession.
Students of journalism learn in their text book one of the important principles of journalism. It says: “Facts are sacred, comment is free. It is good to be frank, but even better to be fair”, he added.
He also said that the journalist should know the laws and ethics of media.
One of the most effective ways of developing writing skills is to make use of the ‘Letters to the Editor’ column in the newspapers and staying in touch with current affairs, he informed. This will serve a dual purpose. Apart from improving communication skill, it will also give the editor an idea of his/her readership. This way, there will be a greater coverage of news from that particular state or the community. This is an effective way to get the attention of the media, he added.
The grand function attended by hundreds of Indian families started with the recitation of Hamd by Hafez Khaja Aleemuddin and Nath by Shafiq. Ghaffar Aamer Siddiqui, Noted anchor and stage artist who is also the advisor of APUS conducted the proceedings and introduced the office-bearers.
Nayeem Abdul Qayum, vice-president, APUS welcomed the gathering. Dr Ashraf Ali, president, APUS propose the vote of thanks and outlined the future activities of APUS.
Prizes were also distributed tothose children who excelled in elocation and Karate competition.
Saleem Ahmed, president, PINAR and Abdul Jabbar Khan were the guests of honor. Cultural programme anchored by Nayeem Abdul Qayum enthralled the audience. Singers Abdul Khader and Aftab Khan rendered old and new songs in their melodious voice. Standup comedy by Ghaffar Amer Siddiqui was a big hit.
The cultural program continued till the wee hours of Friday with audience enjoying and applauding every bit of it.
