Mangaluru: Jack slides down - mechanic crushed to death

Mangaluru, Jun 24: In a tragic incident which occurred at Bangrakulur in the city on Thursday June 23, a mechanic got crushed under the weight of a truck when working under it, after the jack suddenly slid down. The deceased has been identified as Ashim (21), a native of Dharwad.

A truck loaded with plywood at Deralakatte was moving towards Dharwad. When the vehicle reached Kottara Chowki, a tyre of the truck suffered puncture. As such, the driver, Manjunath Vaddar, asked the mechanic, Ashim, to change the tyre at Bangrakulur.

As the Jack suddenly gave way, the body of Ashim bore the weight of the truck, and was crushed. He was killed on the spot. A case against truck driver, Manjunath, was registered in the police station thereafter.
