Udupi, Nov 12: The agitation that was launched on Tuesday October 30 between Hejmadi and Shiroor, protesting against the bad condition of NH-17 appears to have had its impact.
The said protest formed under the leadership of Govindaraja Hegde, has finally succeeded in goading the administration to take action in repairing the damaged roads.
Owing to bad roads many human lives were lost and many more were injured in various accidents till October 31 2007.
Bisse Gowda, chief engineer of the National Highways did a spot survey, immediately after the protest which resulted in some repair works being undertaken.
Although the work is not satisfactory Hegde expressed his happiness that at least some work is undertaken because of the protest.
According to the information received from the NH authorities, nearly all the potholes have been filled up in the stretch comprising 107 km of the highway, informed Hegde.
The 16 km stretch from Shirroor to Uppunda which is in a very bad shape will also be repaired, he informed.
