Bantwal, Jun 29: In an incident which occurred in Muchirapadavu village of the taluk on Tuesday June 28 morning, a woman, who was employed at Peruvai gram panchayat, killed herself by jumping into a pond.

The deceased has been identified as Akshata (23), daughter of Anand, residing at the government quarters at Muchirapadavu. She had been working at Peruvai gram panchayat as a permanent employee for the past few years. About 18 months back, she was deputed to Manila gram panchayat that was newly formed.

It is learnt that Akshata came to office as usual in the morning. Some time later she complained of headache and went home. However, later it was found that she had directly gone to Muchirapadavu near Peruvai and jumped into a pond there. Locals immediately called the fire brigade stationed at Bantwal. By the time the fire personnel rushed there and rescued Akshata, she had breathed her last.

Although there is no clear clue about the motive of suicide, some locals feel that political tug-of-war happening inside the panchayat had played a role in creating frustration in her.

The body was taken to Deralakatte hospital for postmortem. A case was registered at Vittal police station.
