SFI plans protest: The Students Federation of India (SFI) disgusted by the pathetic condition of hostels managed by the department of backward classes and minorities, has threatened to launch an agitation if no action was taken to solve the problems in the hostels stated a press release.

Further according to the release, a survey by the SFI district committee revealed that the condition of hostels particularly at Ashoknagar and Kulur was wretched.

Yuvajana Mela’: The two-day city taluk ‘Yuvajana Mela’ will be held at Padumarnadu higher primary school from November 17, informed a press release. Members of youth organizations registered with the department of youth affairs and sports will be eligible to participate in the event.

It would be mandatory for them to get their identity card, issued by the president or secretary of their organization. Separate competitions in various categories will be held for boys and girls.

Ayurveda Summit:  Professor and HoD of Panchakarma and associate dean of post graduation studies, at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara college of Ayurveda, Dr Srikanth U is currently on a visit to Japan since November 5 and will be there till Nov 23.

The 29th Annual Summit of Ayurveda Society (ASAS), Japan is to be held at Okinawa city, where Dr Srikanth has been invited as a guest speaker.

Currently he is covering topics on Ayurvedic oil massage and ‘Shirodhara’. He would also conduct workshops on ‘Panchakarma’ and deliver lecture on health promoting aspects described in ayurveda, life style, management of various neurological disorders etc.

‘Yakshagana’: Vishweshatirtha swamiji of Pejawar Math, Udupi urged recently that people should protect and promote Yakshagana.

Swamiji was speaking after presenting the “Sri Vishwesha Tirtha Prashasti” to the founder of “Bharati Kalasadana”, Keshavananda Bharati swamiji of Edneer Math at Udupi.

According to Sri Vishweshatirtha ‘Yakshagana’ reflects the cultural ethos of coastal districts. It is the pride of the region. The Kalaranga is rendering selfless service by providing insurance cover to the artistes, he lauded.

Public hearing on environment:  A public hearing on the special economic zone (SEZ) at Permude, Bajpe, Kalavaru, Thokur, Tenka Yekkar, Kuthethur and Bala villages would be organized by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) at the assembly hall of St Joseph Church, Bajpe on November 28.

DC M Maheshwar Rao would be presiding over the said public meet, informed a press release from Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) Limited.

Moreover, the organizers S S Creations of ‘Kudla Kalavali’ will also be holding a two-day open-air exhibition of arts at Kadri here from November 24. The event is an attempt by the artist fraternity of the coastal region to show-case the region’s artistic heritage and thereby generating public patronage for the art.
