Bengaluru, Jun 30: As per police sources there is indirect support from influential people behind transport and sales network of heroin, cocaine and other drugs in the state. Though the entire system does not support it, there is a blessing of some customs and police officials in it. Some politicians also play a significant role here.
The sources state that it is otherwise not easy to make the items reach the sales dens of the mafia through sea, air, bus and train routes without the help of concerned officials.
The people in the trade are specialised in their trade unlike small criminals. Children of higher government officials and politicians are their permanent customers.
The kingpins of the network known as white collar criminals in the police terminology first contact the children of police officials and politicians. They introduce themselves as real estate and cinema financiers and develop friendship. Once the friendship becomes thick, they accompany the victims to bar, pub and night parties giving a taste of drugs and include the victims with them.
They spread their net with the acquaintance of the children of police officials and politicians and form a group for the purpose. It is difficult to come out of the habit after addiction. Therefore those who get stuck in the net, add as many friends of them as possible in the group.
If drugs being sold in Karnataka are compared, those that are being seized by the police and customs officials are only between 3 to 5 per cent of the total trade. The remaining contraband up to 95% reaches their destination by air, bus and train under the protection of officials.
