Gabriel Jesus nets brace as Palmeiras stay on top


Rio de Janeiro, Jul 1 (IANS): A Gabriel Jesus brace helped Palmeiras retain the top spot in Brazil's Serie A football championship as they romped to a 4-0 home victory over Figueirense.

Moises and Dudu were also on target at Allianz Parque on Thursday as the Sao Paulo outfit notched their eighth win of the campaign, reports Xinhua.

Gabriel, reportedly being sought by Barcelona, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, is now the competition's top scorer with nine goals from from 12 matches.

Earlier this week the 19-year-old was named in Brazil's squad for the Olympic Games in August.

In other matches on Thursday, Ponte Preta beat Santa Cruz 3-0 and Atletico Mineiro overcame Botafogo 5-3.
