After plentiful rains, Himachal to see lull in monsoon

Shimla, July 3 (IANS): After days of moderate to heavy rainfall, the monsoon will remain largely subdued in Himachal Pradesh in the coming week, the Met office said on Sunday.

"Precipitation occurred at most places in the state. There has been no appreciable change in the minimum temperatures, while the maximum increased by four to five degrees since Saturday," an official of the Meteorological Department told IANS.

The weather bureau said the towns of Narkanda, Kufri, Kasauli, Shimla, Dharamsala, Palampur and Manali recorded rainfall.

Nahan town in Sirmaur district adjoining Uttarakhand received 57 mm of rain, state's maximum.

"The monsoon will remain subdued till July 9 with chances of light rain at some places," the official added.

A government spokesperson said that water level in the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna rivers and their tributaries, which are in spate in Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts, would start receding with decline in rainfall.
