Bring killers to book in Bangladesh: CPI-M

New Delhi, July 3 (IANS): The CPI-M on Sunday urged Bangladesh to bring those responsible for unending killings of secular nationalists and others in the country to book.

"The recent spate of attacks against secular rationalists, minorities and and foreigners clearly shows that the activities of the fundamentalists are on the rise," it said in a statement.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist hoped that the Bangladesh government "will bring those responsible for the heinous murders to book and restore normalcy at the earliest.

"The people of Bangladesh have a heroic legacy of struggling unitedly for the liberation of Bangladesh cutting across all barriers of religion.

"The CPI-M hopes that the people of Bangladesh will continue to uphold this legacy and thwart all efforts to spread violence and anarchy in the country," it added.

On Friday night, seven gunmen barged into a cafe in Dhaka and slaughtered 20 foreigners and Bangladeshis as well as two policemen. The dead included an Indian girl.
